The same happened if I viewed photos that have been in the Catalogue for months. Process Explorer showed that LR was not using a lot of CPU during this time (c3% or less) and nothing else was hogging the CPU. However it would regularly slow right down when I switched between Library and Develop modules (grey centre panel), move from 1 photo to the next (low res image and showing 'Loading'), often taking several minutes to complete. I then continued trying to work on the photos, clicking "Do Not Show Again" on all the messages I was getting. It was as though it was the first time I had run LR. However it then started behaving strangely seeming to forget all the preferences I had set up, showing tips each time I tried to do something, undoing preferences I had previously set eg solo mode was switched off. When it rebooted I started LR and got a message about it being unable to find or load preview? cache suggesting I shut down and restart LR which I did. I tried closing LR but couldn't, I tried killing it with Process Explorer but this didn't work either so in the end was left with no option but to do a hard reset on the PC. Then when I started viewing them, to do a cull, LR was taking minutes to display a single photo. Yesterday I imported about 200 photos from an SD card and they loaded fine. Lightroom Classic has been running without any problems for years.
